For my next escapade on the Hoosier State campaign trail, I returned to South Bend to attend Bernie Sanders’ rally at the Century Center, the same building where Lyin’ Ted Cruz and his blushing lecher-to-be held their disastrous rally days ago.
In a stark contrast to Cruz’s event, Sanders had people lining up hours before the rally even started. They were your usual mix of college kids, social justice weasels, and union guys. I tried to get an interview with a bluehair behind me who was swearing up and down that she was a “feminist, but not a man-hating feminist,” but my phone kept crashing and rebooting in the cold and the video I got was unusable.
There was one protester: a sad old guy decked out in Uncle Sam regalia and forlornly hoisting a sign around on the other side of the road. Every time he showed his face, the Bernie kids would shout out, “WE STILL LOVE YOU!”
The above picture explains why Donald Trump will crush Hillary Clinton in November.
The doors opened at 4pm and we filed into one of the Center’s ballrooms. At least 2,000 people were crammed into the room, with thousands more shunted into overflow rooms and stuck in the lobby.
Sanders himself was introduced by the dean of one of the local colleges, a middle-aged lesbian who proudly proclaimed herself “a single mother to four cats.” You can’t make it up:
I discuss my thoughts on the rally in this video:
My written account of what happened will be up at Right On soon.
